Dr. J.C. Thieke
Veterinarian & Owner of Anoka Equine
Dr. J.C. Thieke joined Anoka Equine in 1999 and has been an owner since 2003. He graduated from the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and then completed an equine internship at Littleton Large Animal Clinic in Colorado. After gaining 2 years additional experience at a South Dakota clinic, he joined the AE team. Dr. Thieke has special interest in sports medicine, lameness consultations, surgery and dentistry. He is a Certified Veterinary Chiropractor and serves on the American Association of Equine Practitioners Dental Committee. He and his family enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hunting and riding western performance horses.
Dr. Dave Schwinghamer
Veterinarian & Owner of Anoka Equine
Dr. Dave Schwinghamer came to Anoka Equine in 2008. He studied veterinary medicine initially at Ross University, completing his final year at Texas A & M in 2004. After working at an ambulatory practice in Minnesota, he joined a private practice in San Antonio, Texas, gaining valuable experience in surgery, emergency medicine and managing referral cases. In 2008, he returned to Minnesota and accepted a position at AE where his professional focus is lameness consultations, dentistry and surgery. Since becoming an owner in 2012, Dr. Schwinghamer has become active in a business management group and has filled a needed IT role to support clinic advancement.
Dr. Margo Cangemi
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Margo Cangemi was born and raised in the Twin Cities. She grew up riding dressage, dabbling in gaming and as a teenager worked at a trail barn along the Kinnickinnic River. She completed her undergraduate studies in sunny California, but missed the snow and returned to Minnesota for veterinary school. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her many furry friends, including her thoroughbred, Taillights, and her two dogs Bonnie and Bob. Her favorite aspect of veterinary medicine is helping her clients and their horses strengthen their bond through education and care.
Dr. Katie Doran
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Katie Doran obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State in May of 2018. She completed her year long internship at Anoka Equine from 2018-2019. Following her internship, she practiced in Pennsylvania for 2 years. Katie felt a calling back to Minnesota, and returned to practice veterinarian medicine at AE in December of 2021. Her passions include reproductive medicine and general practice. Growing up outside of Columbus, Ohio, she rode horses in 4-H and local hunter jumper shows. She was lucky enough to continue riding in college on the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team at Berry College in Georgia, where she studied Animal Science as an undergraduate. In her spare time, Katie enjoys hiking, anything outdoors, and spending time with family, friends, and her cat, Bug.
Dr. Claire McCauley
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Claire was born and raised in Middleton, WI, and attended UW Madison for her undergraduate. She obtained her Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from UW Madison in 2022. During her schooling, she was very involved in several extra curricular activities, including: Equine Club, Disaster Response Club, and Wisconsin Large Animal Emergency Response. Her special interests as a Veterinarian include diagnostic imaging, sports medicine/lameness and preventative care. When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, she spends her time with her two retired show horses, Mac and Maddie. She also enjoys hiking, listening to podcasts and reading. Claire is looking forward to learning from the talented doctors at Anoka Equine, and meeting new people and horses!
Dr. Jessica Roback
Intern Veterinarian 2024-2025
Dr. Jessica Roback has joined Anoka Equine as a 2024-2025 intern veterinarian. Jessica grew up in Waukesha Wisconsin, riding on many different types of horses and mules. She finally acquired her own horse her sophomore year of undergrad. Jessica earned her B.S. in Biology at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She then went on to attend Iowa State University, earning her DVM in 2024. During veterinary school, she was on the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) student chapter board, active in the AAET (American Association of Embryo Transfer) and completed an equine study abroad in Norway. Jessica's special interests include sports medicine, dentistry, and reproductive medicine, but she loves it all. Outside of equine medicine and events she enjoys rock climbing, backpacking and any outdoor activity. She also enjoys being with family and friends and her two kittens Jolene and Naomi that she recently adopted.
